Essay (Englisch)

Sports lessons – How to make a treat out of torture.

Sports lessons at school mean torture to a lot of students especially at the age between 14 and 18. They would not mind if they would not have to run after a ball and they dream about a life at school without being forced to do some weird looking gym exercises in front of their mates. Motivation gets even worse when teenagers feel uncomfortable showing others their body in sportswear. Not to forget all those kids who just think of doing something good for their body by moving it instead of sitting as something uncool. According to some teenagers opinion only overdisciplined kids, who always participate in competitions, like sports at school. Another argument could be that kids do not learn anything useful for their career during sports lessons. So is it just wasted time they could spend at home? Should schools really offer those lessons or even more of them?

Often the time, at which sports lessons are given, is already one of the huge mistakes. Maybe some would argue that teenagers do not have to be as concentrated doing sports as they have to be during the other lessons. This wrong idea causes the often done mistake to teach sports in the afternoon when everybody is tired from school. Why should anyone be motivated doing something good for his body and health when he is already tired? Maybe sports lessons should be between the other lessons as a break for the brain and a short feeling of freedom for the body. Then students would probably see the positive effect of sports that would help them to work more concentrated. And having more energy because of earlier lessons would enable them to move more intensive and build more muscles which would cause a better body awareness.

Another important step would be a stricter plan for teachers which would prescribe them what to do during the lessons. Students should be able to see how varied sports can be. Sport means so much more than ball games or torturing fitness exercises. In a lot of different games they would notice the positive effects of sports on the relationships with their mates and they would learn how to act as a team. Doing different exercises for getting a healthier body also outside in a park or on the yard would open teenagers a new view at the frightening topic sports. So if we would develop a good concept for sports lessons the quality of these would increase extremely and there would not be any use for more being offered.

Traveling is getting more comfortable and cheap every year. Even though airplanes have transported passengers for half a century by now the number of people traveling by plain has increased extremely in the last few years. This fast growth is caused by the ticket price which is getting lower because of lower production costs and the competition between the companies. Comfort, speed and cheapness are the most significant reasons for the growth of tourism throughout the last few years.
That airplanes and cars pollute the air are well known facts and the only possibility to help protecting the environment is to go by train or take the bus. Of course it’s hard to resist the cheapness and comfort of flights but it seems quite unrealistic to take this decision from the individual by increasing ticket prices. It is nearly impossible because it would mean to work against an increasing economic sector and to make joining a flight only possible for a rich minority.
Another problem is the effects on communities. Of course tourism influences positively the economy but it causes an unnatural development of a city. In Austria are for example villages which seem only designed for ski tourism and all habitants work in this sector. Even though this works out in winter there is nearly no income in summer and if the tourism decreases rapidly the economic consequences are dramatic.
As a conclusion it should be said that green tourism is a personal decision and that communities should be aware of the danger of depending the whole income on the tourism sector and the bad effects on the natural flair of a city.
